Crisis brews at National Union of Civil Engineering, Construction, Furniture and Wood Workers (NUCECFWW), over alleged arbitrary increment in subscription rate for workers.
The body’s hierarchy through its general secretary, Ibrahim A. Walama, recently wrote to its affiliate branches that as from April 2019, the rate of subscription will be reviewed upwards from the present flat rate of one thousand naira (#1000.00) to 2.5% increment on the basic salary rate for its members.
A credible source in the union executive, averred that the whole affiliate branches of the union is mobilizing to upturn this alleged draconian order as it is against the ethics on which the body stands.
Our source queried the rationale for the abrupt increment considering the fact that Federal government is yet to implement the new minimum wage for Nigerian workers.
As at the time of this publication, the phone numbers of the National President of the union, Comrade Amechi Asugwuni, could not be reached for commnet nor him replying his mails.
NUCECFWW is an affiliate body of the Nigeria Labour Congress and came into being via the Federal Government Trade Union Decree No. 22 of 1978 establishing industrial Unions in Nigeria on August 24, 1978 The Union emerged from twenty-five (25) different house Unions which hitherto existed in the industry before the merger, which came as a result of the Federal Government of Nigeria’s efforts to restructure unions along industrial lines.

NUCECFWW has Twenty four (24) State council structure with functional offices and officers in all the council.
Recall that the union last year lamented that industries and home owners bear the heavy brunt of providing for more than 90 percent of their electricity needs through personal electricity generating sets.
