The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, has discharged and acquitted cousin to former President, Goodluck Jonathan, Robert Azibaola, of a $40 million money laundering charge, filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
Azibaola alongside his wife, Stella, and their company, One Plus, were arraigned before the High Court, by the EFCC in 2016, on a nine-count charge, stating that they received $40 million worth of illicit contract from former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki in the guise of supplying tactical communication equipments to the special forces.
Delivering judgement on the matter, presiding judge, Justice Nnamdi Dimgba, held that the prosecution failed to provide credible evidence to establish that the accused committed the offence.
He added, that the prosecution also failed to provide witnesses from the Office of the National Security Adviser(ONSA) nor the former National Security Adviser, as a witness in the case.
Robert Azibaola was discharged and acquitted of all charges levelled against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
