THE Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Sadique Abubakar says the Nigerian armed forces needs an alternative sources of funding to properly executive its constitutional functions outside the annual budgetary allocations.
Air Marshall Abubakar, stated this in Abuja while briefing newsmen after a budget defense session with the House of Representatives committee on Air Force in Abuja.
The Air Force Boss said that force is an expensive institution that needs an alternative source of income even as he appreciate the government and the national assembly for being supportive.
He stated that they are working very closely together to ensure that we get what’s required in terms of platforms, capabilities and manpower so that we can make Nigeria a more secured country.
The air chief however said that the national parliament should be the one drive the idea, stressing that public private partnership arrangement, percentage interest from financial institutions, as well as levying certain charges on mobile phone users to facilitate security agencies’ operations won’t be out of place.
On his part, Chairman of the Committee, Samson Okwu, Benue State, said budget is an important national exercise to establish basic need of Nigerians with the view to allocating available resources to various sectors of the economy for the progress of the nation.
The Committee stated that it will look into the budget proposal and take appropriate towards it’s approval.
